Is It Backbiting to Mention Someoneโ€™s Sin Without Naming Them?

Question

Is it permissible, to talk about people's sin , without mentioning them . For example : saying "yes , a person did this and then.." but not mentioning who or "my friend did this but she/he didn't knew.."

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

Yes, it is generally permissible to mention a sin in a general or anonymous way without naming or identifying the person, especially if the purpose is seeking advice, explaining a ruling, warning others, or teaching a lesson.

However, care should be taken that the person cannot be recognized from the description, and the intention should not be mockery, exposing faults, or backbiting. If the identity could become known, it would fall into ghibah (backbiting) and should be avoided.
