Islamic Ruling on Amulets and hindu charms
Question
Assalamu alaikum shaikh. I have a question. I used to wear amulets, tulsi leaves and eye amulets on my body. A Hindu man gave me an amulet. I used to keep it on my body. But I believed that Allah is Almighty. Everything is in the hands of Allah and Allah will keep me healthy through these means. Recently I heard that these cannot be worn on the body. They are shirk to keep on the body. A long time ago someone told me that if you keep them on your body, your salah and supplication will not be accepted and that keeping them on your body is shirk. But I did not believe him. If I have these on my body, will my salah and supplication be accepted and were my previous salah and supplications accepted and accepted?
Islamic Ruling & Answer
VerifiedWalekumussalam,
In light of Islamic principles, wearing amulets, tulsi leaves, or charms on the body is impermissible and falls under minor shirk (shirk al-asghar), especially when they are given by a Hindu or contain shirk-related elements. This remains wrong even if a person believes that Allah alone controls benefit and harm, because such items create reliance on means of protection outside what Allah has legislated. A Hindu charm in particular is even more serious and should be avoided completely.
However, since your belief was that everything is in Allah’s hands, your previous prayers and supplications remain valid and can still be accepted. You should sincerely repent, remove these items, and avoid wearing them in the future. Such actions do not invalidate salah unless a person falls into major shirk (shirk al-akbar).
