Hadith Contradiction Clarified

Question

Asalamualaikum wa rahmatullah Esteemed Mufti , I recently came across two Sahih but contradictory ahadith which has created a confusion in my mind. One hadith from Sahi Bukhari says that I'm "Syed e walad e Aadam" , (most superior among the children of Adam) Another hadith from Sahi Muslim says that when Prophet SAW was told by a companion that you are the best of creation and Prophet SAW replied it is Ibrahim(AS). Now my questions are: 1: How can there be two sahih hadith which contradict each other? 2. I saw an explanation which said naming Ibrahim AS superior was out of humility, but can a Prophet lie even out of humility? Hope you will provide a satisfactory answer,Jaza Kallah

Walekumussalam warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu,

The statement of the Prophet ﷺ, “I am the leader of the children of Adam” (Ana Sayyidu Waladi Adam), establishes his definitive and absolute superiority, especially with respect to the station of the Day of Judgment.

Whereas referring to Prophet Ibrahim (AS) as superior was in relation to a specific context, particular aspect, or as an expression of worldly etiquette and humility.

Scholars’ explanation (e.g., Hadith commentators):

This is not a contradiction; rather, it reflects different contexts (aspects).

In one hadith, the Prophet mentioned his superiority with respect to the station of the Day of Judgment.

It is also a reality that the Prophet will be the leader in intercession for all the children of Adam on the Day of Judgment.

In the other hadith, mentioning Prophet Ibrahim (AS) was for the purpose of humility, etiquette, and teaching the Ummah.

The Prophets (peace be upon them) are infallible and never speak falsehood.

Adopting humility is not lying; rather, it is a manifestation of wisdom and noble Prophetic character.
