Male doctors in cases of necessity

Question

I have heard so many stories of husbands leaving their wives just because a male medical personnel saw their wives naked maybe during a surgery or examination. In the absence of female medical personnel or in some hospitals you can't even choose who will attend to you during a surgery or examination, you have to see whoever that's available and I believe hospitals allow the husbands to stay in the examination room with their wives. In this case, isn't it permissible in Islam because it is a case of necessity.

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

In Islamic law, when there is a genuine need related to treatment, health, or saving life, it is permissible to receive medical treatment from a male doctor to the extent necessary, especially if a female doctor is unavailable or proper treatment is not possible otherwise. In such a situation, it is not right for the husband to leave his wife or become suspicious of her, because this falls under necessity and compulsion. However, whenever possible, modesty and Islamic boundaries should still be observed, and only the required level of examination should take place.
