Staying sincere and consistent in worship&avoid whispers
Question
Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh, I hope you are doing well. I am a Muslim who, Alhamdulillah, has recently become more practicing after a period where I was not very close to my deen. Allah has guided me a lot, and I am very grateful. I have started praying regularly and even praying tahajjud, and my goal is to reach Jannatul Firdaus, inshaAllah. However, I still struggle a lot with my thoughts and my consistency. I tend to overthink, have negative thoughts, and I feel like I still have many flaws I need to fix. Even though I am trying my best, I sometimes feel lost and worried about myself. Recently, I learned about the concept of “worshipping Allah on an edge,” and I realised that this describes me. I feel like my worship sometimes depends on my emotions or circumstances, and this really concerns me because I want to worship Allah sincerely and remain firm no matter what I am going through. I would really appreciate your advice on: (1) How I can make my worship more stable and sincere (2) How to stop overthinking and negative thoughts affecting my relationship with Allah (3)How to build a stronger and more consistent connection with Him (4) And how to always worship Allah constantly not just on a harf (cliff) Jazakum Allahu khairan for your time and for the work you do. May Allah reward you greatly and grant you the highest levels of Jannah. Please keep me in your du’as. Wassalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh
Islamic Ruling & Answer
VerifiedWalekumussalam warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu,
We felt happy reading your message. It is a great blessing that Allah has brought you back towards the Deen and has put the concern for self-improvement and the Hereafter in your heart. This worry and restlessness is actually a sign of faith, so do not lose hope. Rather, consider it a special mercy from Allah.
Answers :
(1) Before every act of worship, correct your intention and remind yourself that you are doing it only for Allah’s pleasure. Choose small but consistent actions, because these are most beloved to Allah. If thoughts of showing off come, don’t panic—just correct your intention again. Also, make it a habit to read this dua:
اللهم أعني على ذكرك وشكرك وحسن عبادتك۔
(O Allah, help me to remember You, thank You, and worship You in the best way).
(2) Understand clearly that bad thoughts (whispers) are not sinful unless you act upon them. Whenever a negative thought comes, immediately say أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم and ignore it. Keep yourself busy in dhikr, recitation, or something positive. Most importantly, don’t blame yourself too much, because Shaytan wants you to fall into despair.
(3) Make salah the foundation of your life and pray all five prayers on time. Keep a daily connection with the Quran, even if it is little. Make morning and evening adhkar a habit. Talk to Allah in private—share your feelings and thoughts with Him. This builds a strong connection.
(4) Do not link worship only with feelings. Treat it as a responsibility, whether you feel like it or not. Understand that ups and downs in faith are normal. Success is in returning to Allah again and again. Set small goals and increase gradually. Keep good company, as it helps you stay firm.
May Allah grant you steadfastness, give peace to your heart, accept all your good efforts, and grant you the highest place in Jannatul Firdaus. Ameen.
