Question
Are women less intelligent than men according to islam?
Islamic Ruling & Answer
VerifiedIslam does not consider women less intelligent than men. In fact, the Qur’an and Hadith show that women are equally capable in understanding, learning, and making wise decisions. Intelligence is not limited by gender in Islam; it depends on effort, knowledge, and faith.
For courage and inspiration, we can look at the Sahabiyat (female companions of the Prophet ﷺ):
Aisha (RA) – She was known as the “Mother of the Believers” and one of the greatest scholars of Hadith. She narrated over 2,000 Hadiths and taught both men and women. Her intellect, memory, and reasoning were unmatched, and even male companions sought her advice in complex matters.
Fatimah (RA) – The daughter of the Prophet ﷺ, she was wise, strong, and decisive. She stood firmly for her rights and was deeply knowledgeable in matters of faith.
Umm Salamah (RA) – She gave counsel to the Prophet ﷺ on important social and political matters, showing deep wisdom and strategic thinking.
These examples show that Islam encourages women to learn, think, and lead. Intelligence is not gender-based; courage, knowledge, and wisdom are available to both men and women equally.
