Does Allah Give Signs Before Death According to Islam?
Question
Does Allah give any signs or indications to a person before death? Some people believe that seeing deceased relatives in dreams, being called by someone in a dream, or seeing oneself building a house are signs of approaching death. From an Islamic perspective, do such dreams or experiences indicate death? Is there any evidence from the Qur’an and authentic Hadith that supports the idea that Allah gives specific signs to a person before their death? Please explain with references from authentic Islamic sources. JazakAllahu Khairan.
Islamic Ruling & Answer
VerifiedThe time of death is known only to Allah.
Allah says:
وَمَا تَدْرِي نَفْسٌ مَّاذَا تَكْسِبُ غَدًا ۖ وَمَا تَدْرِي نَفْسٌ بِأَيِّ أَرْضٍ تَمُوتُ
(Surah Luqman 31:34)
Translation : No soul knows what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul knows in which land it will die.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
الرُّؤْيَا الصَّالِحَةُ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَالْحُلْمُ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ
(Sahih al-Bukhari)
Translation: A good dream is from Allah, and a bad dream is from Shaytan.
There is no authentic Hadith that says seeing dead relatives in dreams, being called in a dream, or seeing oneself building a house means death is near.
Therefore, such dreams are not confirmed signs of death. The knowledge of death is only with Allah.
