Guidance on Choosing an Islamic name for a baby girl

Question

Assalam o Alikum. We have been blessed with a daughter by Allah SWT blessings, however, we want to seek guidance on naming her. Are there are specific conditions which we should follow. Also, we have thought of two names Tehniyat and Hibba. Please guide.

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Walekumussalam,

MashaAllah, may Allah make your daughter a source of mercy and blessings for you, Ameen. In Islam, when choosing a name, it should have a good and positive meaning, and it should not contain anything related to shirk or wrong beliefs. It is better if the name is from the Prophets, righteous women, or has a similar good meaning. Among the names you chose, “Tehniyat” means giving congratulations and is not commonly used as a name, so it is not considered suitable. On the other hand, “Hiba” means a gift or blessing from Allah, which is a beautiful and permissible Islamic name, so it is a better choice..

You can choose Hiba or also consider these beautiful Islamic names:

Fatima (name of the Prophet’s daughter), Aisha (Mother of the Believers, intelligent and dignified), Maryam (pure, mentioned in the Quran), Zainab (fragrant flower, honorable), Hafsa (name of a female companion), Amina (peaceful, brings comfort), Ruqayyah (gentle and elevated), Sumayyah (high status), Noor (light), Iman (faith), Hoorain (beautiful eyes of paradise), Jannat (garden, paradise), Sidra (tree of paradise), Lina (soft date palm tree), and Aaliya (high and noble).

May Allah bless your daughter with a long, healthy, and blessed life, Ameen.
