Ruling on Taraweeh Loudspeakers After Objection

Question

What Is the Islamic Ruling When a Non-Muslim Woman Requests the Mosque Committee to Stop Taraweeh Qurโ€™an Recitation on Loudspeakers?

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

If a non-Muslim woman asks the mosque committee to stop the Qurโ€™an recitation of Taraweeh on loudspeakers, it should be understood that Taraweeh prayer and Qurโ€™an recitation inside the mosque are Sunnat-e- Muโ€™akkadah (a strongly emphasized Sunnah), and they should not be stopped.

However, using loudspeakers is not an essential part of the prayer. Islam has a principle: โ€œThere should be neither harm nor causing harm.โ€

So, if the sound is truly disturbing others, the volume should be lowered and arrangements should be made with balance and wisdom.

And if by loudspeakers it means the outside speakers that spread the sound far and cause disturbance to neighbors, then Islam also forbids causing harm to others. In that case, it is better to turn off or limit the outside speakers.

In short, Taraweeh should continue  but without causing harm or disturbance to anyone.
