Is It Necessary to Wash Najis Clothes Three Times?

If clothes are washed in a small amount of water (like in a bucket), then they should be washed three times and squeezed each time, so that you are sure the impurity has been removed.

However, if they are washed under running water, and the impurity’s signs (color, smell, or taste) disappear, then the clothes become pure. In this case, washing three times is not necessary.

(1) وإن غسله في إجانةٍ ثلاثَ مراتٍ وعصره في كلِّ مرةٍ طَهُرَ.

 Translation :

If he washes it in a vessel three times and squeezes it each time, it becomes pure. (Al-Hidayah)

(2) ويُشترط في الغسل بالماءِ القليلِ ثلاثُ غسلاتٍ مع العصرِ في كلِّ مرةٍ لإزالةِ النجاسة.

 Translation :

In washing with a small quantity of water, three washes are required, along with squeezing each time, in order to remove the impurity.
