How to pay missed qurbani

In the situation mentioned in the question, if the person was financially eligible for Qurbani in the previous years and Qurbani was obligatory upon him, but he did not perform it, then after the days of Qurbani have passed, he must make up for the missed Qurbani.

If, instead of slaughtering the sacrificial animal, it becomes necessary to give its value in charity, then for each missed Qurbani, the price of an animal that would be suitable for Qurbani must be given to a person who is legally eligible to receive Zakat.

It is not necessary to give the entire amount at one time to a single eligible person. If one has sufficient financial means, it is preferable to give the entire amount to one eligible person, so that his need can be met more effectively. However, if paying the full amount at once is difficult, it is permissible to pay it gradually, in installments, at different times, and to distribute it among different eligible recipients, until the required amount for each missed Qurbani has been completed.

However, even though payment in installments is permissible in the case of financial difficulty, one should not unnecessarily delay fulfilling this obligation. Rather, one should make an effort to complete it as soon as possible according to one's financial ability.

For example, if the amount due for one missed Qurbani is ₹30,000 and paying the entire amount at once is difficult, one may give ₹5,000 or ₹10,000 at a time to eligible recipients, according to one's ability, provided that the total amount due for that missed Qurbani is eventually completed.

Likewise, the amount due for each missed year should be kept track of separately, so that one can be certain that all the outstanding obligations have been fulfilled.
