Salaam, I hope you are well. We would firstly be very grateful if you could remember my husband and I, and our unborn child, in your duas, particularly for a healthy and righteous child and an easy pregnancy and delivery, inshallah. We also wanted to ask for some guidance regarding names. We do not know yet whether we are expecting a boy or a girl, but we have put together a small list of names that we both like. Please could you advise us from an Islamic perspective on whether they are desirable and have good meanings and whether there are any names you would particularly recommend from the list? We are not necessarily asking you to choose a name for us, but we would really value your thoughts on the names we have chosen and whether they would be considered good and appropriate Islamic names if you’re able to do so. For a girl, we were thinking of one of the following names: * Ayrah * Raiha / Rayha * Sariyya / Sareeya / Sariyah * Anabia For a boy, we were thinking of one of the following names: * Aahil * Ayaan * Adyan / Adyaan * Harith Jazakallah for your guidance and duas.

Regarding choosing a name, the basic principle is to choose a name that has a good and Islamically sound meaning and does not contain anything inappropriate or contrary to Shariah. Among the names on your list, there is some difference regarding the meanings and Arabic origins of certain names. Therefore, as a matter of precaution, it is better to give preference to names with clear and established meanings.
For girls:
Sariyah / Sariyya (سَرِيَّة) is a recognized Arabic name and has good meanings, so it is a preferable choice.
Raiha / Rayha (رَيْحَة) carries the meaning of fragrance, although care should be taken with its correct Arabic spelling and pronunciation.
The authentic Arabic meanings and origins of Ayrah and Anabia are not clear, so it is better to choose a well-known name with an established meaning instead.
For boys:
Harith (حارث) is a well-known Arabic name, meaning a cultivator, one who works diligently, or one who earns, and it is a good name.
Regarding Aahil, Ayaan, and Adyan/Adyaan, different meanings and origins are mentioned. Therefore, it is preferable to give priority to a name with a clear and established meaning.
Therefore, from your list, Sariyah for a girl and Harith for a boy are good and relatively clear choices.
A Dua and Wazifah During Pregnancy and for Ease in Childbirth:
Reciting the Qur’an and making dua are acts of goodness and blessing at all times. During pregnancy, one may recite the first five verses of Surah Al-Inshiqaq, blow over water, and drink it as a form of dua and seeking blessing. It should be understood as a supplicatory practice for ease in childbirth.
The first five verses of Surah Al-Inshiqaq are:
بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
﴿إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انشَقَّتْ ١ وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ ٢ وَإِذَا الْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ ٣ وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ ٤ وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ ٥﴾
These verses may be recited, blown over water, and the water may then be drunk. One should also ask Allah Almighty for an easy pregnancy, an easy childbirth, and the safety and well-being of the baby.
May Allah Almighty bless your child with good health, righteousness, piety, and success in both this world and the Hereafter. May He make the child a source of comfort and joy for both of you and a means of ongoing reward. May He allow the pregnancy to reach completion safely, make the childbirth easy, and protect both the mother and child from every harm and difficulty. Aameen.
