Do You Have to Sleep Before Praying Tahajjud?

Question

Is it necessary to sleep and wake up in order to pray tahajjud? if a person is awake around tht time can he/she pray tahajjud? I also have heard stuff like its preferred to pray tahajjud In darkness...?

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

Sleeping is not necessary for Tahajjud. If a person is already awake, they can still pray Tahajjud; however, praying after sleeping and then waking up is more virtuous.

And praying “in darkness” is not a requirement; rather, praying in the quiet and calm of the night is better, as it helps in achieving greater concentration and humility (khushu).
