Is hajj valid as mahr?

Question

Can I ask hajj in my Mahr or is it an obligation of my future husband to provide naturally for it during our wedding time ?

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

According to the question, it is not valid in Islamic law to stipulate Hajj or Umrah as Mahr. If a marriage is conducted with Hajj or Umrah specified as the Mahr, the marriage will still be valid, but the husband will be required to pay Mahr al-Mithl—that is, the customary Mahr given to women of similar status in the bride’s family.

However, it is not obligatory upon the husband to take his wife for Hajj or Umrah as part of her marital rights. If he voluntarily chooses to take her for Hajj or Umrah, that is a separate matter.

And Allah knows best.
