Islamic rulling about zuhr's rakat

Question

Could you please answer my question directly? I pray Dhuhr like this: in the first two rak‘ahs, I recite Surah Al-Fatiha followed by Surah Al-Ikhlas. In the last two rak‘ahs, I recite only Surah Al-Ikhlas. Is this the correct way to pray Dhuhr?

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

According to the Hanafi school of jurisprudence, in the four-rak‘ah obligatory (fard) prayer of Dhuhr:

In the first two rak‘ahs, it is correct to recite Surah Al-Fatihah followed by another surah.

In the last two rak‘ahs, the Sunnah method is to recite only Surah Al-Fatihah; reciting only Surah Al-Ikhlas is not the correct method.

Therefore, in the last two rak‘ahs, recite Surah Al-Fatihah and do not add Surah Al-Ikhlas.

And Allah knows best.
