Question
Why do I feel nothing when praying? Whenever I pray I donโt feel any spiritual or emotional closeness to Allah, I feel some sort of emptiness which actually pulls me further away and makes me feel like I donโt want to pray anymore for that reason. To put it simply it feels like a chore when I donโt want it to feel that way. I kind of feel lost because I sometimes question the validity of my own religion but then sometimes I believe strongly itโs like this weird cycle of trust in my faith.
Islamic Ruling & Answer
VerifiedFaith does not remain the same all the time; sometimes it is strong and sometimes it weakens โ this happens to everyone. Not feeling focused or connected in prayer does not mean the prayer is useless; rather, it can be a barrier from the nafs (inner self) or Shaytan. True success is that a person does not abandon prayer despite this state.
Remember, closeness does not always come from feelings but from consistency. Keep praying, make a little duโa with sincerity, and try to understand what you recite gradually, your heart will become attached.
