How Can a Muslim Avoid Dating in a Society Where It Is the Norm?

Question

In my country it is almost impossible to not be dating. If you are not dating someone, you are seen as local or primitive. I don't come from a religious family so it might look weird to them and my friends date so I will be the odd one out. I don't want to date, I want to get married the right way. Please any advice? Side note: I have a very important exam coming, please make Dua for me that I pass....

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

No, your choice not to date is neither a weakness nor backwardness—rather, in Shariah it is a correct and praiseworthy decision.

In Islam, relationships with a non-mahram before marriage (such as dating) are not permitted, because they can lead to temptation and sin. The Qur’an clearly commands not even to go near zina, so it is necessary to avoid all such paths.

Therefore, if you intend to keep your relationship only through nikah and in a halal way, this is a very pure and strong intention. People’s comments or social pressure are temporary—real success lies in the pleasure of Allah. Be patient, stay firm on your stance, and when the time comes, pursue marriage through your family or a trustworthy channel…

Some wazaif for exam success:

Be consistent with salah + make dua after every prayer

Recite یا فتاح، یا علیم 100 time daily

Recite surah الشرح 7 time

Send durood 11–21 times daily

Before the exam:ربِّ زدني علماً

May Allah grant you steadfastness in deen and success in your exam. Ameen.
