Question
Assalamualaikum My heart is heavy and I'm mentally drained.I keep seeing posts about digital id and it being referred to as the mark of the beast.I don't want my soul to suffer for something I have done wrong but it seems unavoidable. How do we proceed or know if it's right or wrong .How does it affect us as muslims
Islamic Ruling & Answer
VerifiedWalekumussalam,
According to the Prophetic narrations (Ahadith), the Dajjal will be a specific human being who will appear near the end of time and cause a great trial and tribulation. Therefore, it is not correct to label a digital ID, card, or technology itself as the Dajjal.
However, it is possible that certain technologies could be misused in the future for oppression, surveillance, or misguidance. In that sense, they could become part of the trials and temptations associated with the era of the Dajjal. Nevertheless, merely possessing or using a digital ID does not amount to following the Dajjal or accepting the “Mark of the Beast.”
Therefore, rather than becoming excessively fearful because of such claims on social media, one should focus on strengthening faith, performing righteous deeds, and regularly reciting the supplications taught by the Prophet ﷺ for protection from the trial of the Dajjal. The Prophet ﷺ especially encouraged the recitation of Surah Al-Kahf and seeking Allah’s protection from the trial of the Dajjal.
In this regard, the following supplication should be recited frequently:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ جَهَنَّمَ، وَمِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ، وَمِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَحْيَا وَالْمَمَاتِ، وَمِنْ شَرِّ فِتْنَةِ الْمَسِيحِ الدَّجَّالِ۔
Translation: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of Hell, from the punishment of the grave, from the trials of life and death, and from the evil of the trial of the False Messiah (Dajjal).
May Allah protect us from all trials, especially the trial of the Dajjal, and keep us steadfast upon faith. Ameen.
