Mistakes don't remove faith

Question

Salam alikoem, If I have given incorrect information about Islam etc, what should I do? I have colleagues who are not Muslim and they sometimes ask questions, and I absolutely do not want to say anything wrong that could cause me to get into trouble. It gives me also waswas. Sometimes I say something and then I think, is that right? Maybe I said something wrong? Maybe there are exceptions to what I say, etc., etc., and do I just remain a believer/Muslim?

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

Walekumussalam,

“If you accidentally gave incorrect information about Islam, then when you realize the mistake, correct it if possible and ask Allah for forgiveness. A sincere mistake does not take a person out of Islam. You remain a Muslim as long as you have faith and are not intentionally lying about the religion. If you are unsure about an issue, it is best to say: 'Allah knows best' or 'I am not sure.' Constant doubts and 'what if' thoughts are often waswasah and should not be given attention.”
