Is It Permissible to Process Interest-Based Insurance for Clients as Part of My Job?
Question
I work in a visa service company. As part of my job, there are situations where I have to renew or newly add insurance that includes interest, which is mandated by the government, on behalf of clients. From an Islamic perspective, is this considered halal?
Islamic Ruling & Answer
VerifiedNo, according to the Hanafi school, this is not permissible.
Because conventional insurance involves interest (riba), uncertainty (gharar), and elements of gambling (maysir), and renewing or issuing such policies is considered assistance in a prohibited transaction (ØĒؚاŲŲ ØšŲÛ Ø§ŲاØĢŲ ).
Therefore, a job in which this work is mandatory is not appropriate and should be avoided.
