Can a Woman Pray for Divorce From a Toxic Marriage?

Question

If a women is in a toxic marriage, can we make dua for her , like "ya Allah , give her a better partner" Or "divorce them" . If that women wants to work , to earn money , so that she can be independent and during emergency won't need to ask her husband, can she work secretly , if her husband won't allow her to work.

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

If a woman is truly in a difficult and oppressive marriage, it is permissible to make dua for her, for example, asking Allah to improve her situation, make things easier for her, or grant her a better life. However, specifically praying for divorce is not recommended; it is better to pray generally for improvement and goodness.

Similarly, if a husband unjustly forbids her from working and she needs to earn for her necessities or emergencies, secretly working without his permission is generally not considered permissible. It is better to try to resolve the matter through mutual discussion, patience, and wisdom, and if needed, seek help from elders or trustworthy people.
