Can Muslims Create Video Games in Islam?

Question

Assalam O Alaikum. Is it halal to make a 3D game where instead of controlling human characters which is haram, you control robots, with no realistic facial features, but somewhat similar to humans with two legs, arms, and a head, but no facial features; no hair, no nose, no mouth. The game will not contain any other haram elements such as music, violence, nudity etc.

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

Walekumussalam,

If the described 3D game contains robots that do not possess the complete form of a real living being, and the game is free from music, nudity, violence, gambling, unlawful transactions, and other prohibited elements, and there is a reasonable religious or worldly benefit in playing it, while it does not lead to neglect of obligatory duties, then there is room for permissibility subject to these conditions.

However, if the game is played merely for amusement and passing time, or if any of the above conditions are not met, then playing it would not be permissible.
