Is Playing Blackjack Without Real Money Haram?
Question
I have a question regarding online blackjack. If I play a blackjack game on the App Store that does not involve any real money, does not allow cashing out, and only uses virtual chips with no monetary value, is it halal or haram to play?
Islamic Ruling & Answer
Since blackjack is fundamentally a gambling game, playing such games can cultivate an interest in gambling, create a habit of it, or increase one's inclination toward it. Therefore, it is better to avoid it without a valid need. Furthermore, if the game contains any other prohibited elements (such as indecent content, music, neglect of obligatory duties, etc.), then it would be impermissible for those reasons as well.
