School syllabus and Qur'an 4:140

Question

Assalamualaikum May Allah bless Does the verse 4:140 also include school studies that include ancient ' gods ' in school syllabus and fictional book ' gods' like children books like Percy Jackson or harry Potter ? Will that make us as sitting with blasphemous people?. We are in India. Jazakallah khair

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

Walekumussalam,

The primary ruling of Qur'an 4:140 concerns gatherings in which Allah's verses, the religion, or Islam are being mocked or ridiculed. If a school curriculum merely mentions ancient "gods" in a historical, literary, or fictional context, without the purpose of mocking the religion, then this does not necessarily fall under the scope of this verse. However, if a book or environment negatively influences one's beliefs, glorifies polytheistic ideas, or has a harmful effect on a person's faith, then it should be avoided.
