Can I Give Zakat to My Sister's Children for Their Education?

Question

Can I give zakaat to my sister's baaligh children for their education because their father is unable to bear the expenses of their education with his meagre income but their mother is sahab e nisaab?

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

Yes, you can give zakat to your sister’s adult children for their education if they themselves are not sahib-e-nisab (do not own wealth equal to nisab), even if their mother is sahib-e-nisab.

Zakat depends on the financial status of the person receiving it, not on their parents.

Zakat must be given into their ownership
