Is It Allowed for a Husband to Lead His Wife in Prayer?

Question

My wife can't offer namaz properly she has some issues so may i can be her imam for namaz?

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

A wife can offer the obligatory (farz) prayer behind her husband, but in this situation it is necessary in Islamic law that the wife stands behind the husband, not next to him.

It should be clearly understood that for a man, leaving the mosque congregation without a valid Islamic excuse is a sin. There are strong warnings in Hadees about missing the mosque prayer. Therefore, without a valid excuse, one should not establish congregation at home instead of going to the mosque.

However, if due to some genuine excuse the mosque congregation is missed, then praying in congregation at home with family is better than praying alone. It is reported that once the Prophet ๏ทบ went to reconcile between two groups. When he returned, the congregation in Masjid-e-Nabawi had already finished, so he gathered his family and offered the prayer in congregation at home.

Only Allah knows best.
