Does Yellow or Brown Discharge After Purity Count as Menstruation?
Question
As salamu alikum If someone saw light beige colour discharge that was not directly like (thread like) but close to white vaginal discharge, is this sign of purity after menstruation.? then after some minutes checked with a tampong and saw light yellow discharge that could be close to vaginal discharge, I was confused so then direct checked again with a tampong and saw brown discharge. Should that person do ghusl and have that person already been pure from beginning?
Islamic Ruling & Answer
Walekumussalam,
Light beige or light yellow discharge is not a sign of purity.
Because brown discharge appeared, menstruation had not ended.
Reference:
Umm ‘Atiyyah (RA) said:
كُنَّا لَا نَعُدُّ الْكُدْرَةَ وَالصُّفْرَةَ بَعْدَ الطُّهْرِ شَيْئًا
(Sunan Abi Dawud, ḥadees no. 307)
Meaning:
Yellow or brown discharge is ignored only after purity.
This means before purity, it is menstruation.
Purity ends only when:
Clear white discharge appears or complete dryness is seen.
Until white discharge appears, any color — yellow, brown, muddy, dark, black, or beige — is still menstruation.
So Ghusl only after white discharge or dryness
