Should I Accept a Marriage Proposal or Wait for Someone I Like?

Question

I have a situation where I have a friend who im interested in and I think he feels the same way about me however im not sure. On the other hand my parents have got a proposal for me for marriage so im not sure what to do in this situation?

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

This is an important decision, so donโ€™t rush yourself or make a choice based only on emotions. If you genuinely have feelings for your friend and feel that he may also be serious about you, then first try to clearly understand his intentions and seriousness.

At the same time, donโ€™t reject a good marriage proposal just because of assumptions or uncertain feelings. Think carefully about who would be better for you in terms of character, religion, personality, future goals, and family life.

Pray for guidance (Istikhara), make dua, and if possible, seek advice from a wise and trustworthy elder or family member. A marriage decision should be made using both the heart and the mind together.
