Deep Study of Literature and the Quran

Question

Assalamualaikum If a person while studying literature, is studying the chapters in full detail , like searching up the meaning of names and words , timeline etc , and just going deep just because it interests him. Is it sinful . And can we study the quran like this . On our own .

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

Walekumussalam,

Studying literature or any other field in depth out of interest is not sinful; rather, seeking knowledge is a good thing. Likewise, the Qurโ€™an can also be studied in this way. However, it is better to refer to reliable tafsir (commentaries) and the guidance of scholars so that no misunderstanding occurs in its meaning.
