Ghusl after menstruation: which method is correct?
Question
I am confused on how to perform ghusl after menstruation. I always see different ways of doing it, the starting is always the same: Intention, saying Bismillah, washing hands, washing private part but after that pepper have different ways of doing it. Some people perform ablution without washing the feet, then wash the left and right side of the body then wash the feet while some people perform a complete ablution, wash the head thoroughly then wash the left and right side of the body. Which is correct or are they both correct based on the school of thought you follow
Islamic Ruling & Answer
VerifiedAfter menstruation, the different methods of ghusl you may have seen are not actually contradictory; the difference is only in the sequence. In Islamic law, there are three obligatory acts of ghusl: rinsing the mouth, cleaning the nose by drawing water into it, and washing the entire body in such a way that no part remains dry. Once these three are completed, the ghusl is valid, regardless of the order.
In the Prophetic method, ablution (wudu) is included, and here two forms are reported: one is to perform wudu but delay washing the feet until the end, then wash the whole body and finally wash the feet; the other is to perform a complete wudu (including the feet) first, then wash the head and the entire body. Both methods are established from the Sunnah and are completely valid.
The reason for washing the feet at the end was that in earlier times, bathing areas were made of unpaved ground, so the water flowing off the body would collect on the floor and could re-wet the feet. Therefore, they were washed at the end. Today, since bathrooms are clean and properly constructed, it makes no difference whether the feet are washed at the beginning or at the end.
