Is It Permissible to Gift Handmade Jewellery to Muslim and Non-Muslim Friends?

Question

Assalamualaikum. If I want to make gifts for my friends and some of them are non muslims . Can I gift them handmade jewellery, but they would wear it outside , and I also gift handmade jewellery to my muslim friends if they have not yet start wearing hijab .

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

Walekumussalam,

Yes, it is permissible to gift handmade jewellery to non-Muslim friends.

However, regarding Muslim friends, if they will wear such jewellery outside without hijab, then it is better to avoid giving them jewellery, because it may contribute to the display of adornment. Displaying adornment in front of non-mahrams is sinful, and assisting in sin is not appropriate. Therefore, it is better to give something simple or something that can be used at home.
