Question

How Many Daily Prayers Are Obligatory in Islam?

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

Muslims are required to perform five daily prayers (Salah) in Islam. These prayers are Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha, and they are obligatory upon every adult Muslim

In Islam, Salah (prayer) is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, making it a fundamental act of worship. Every adult Muslim is required to pray five times a day at specific times.

The five daily prayers are:

  • Fajr โ€“ before sunrise
  • Dhuhr โ€“ midday
  • Asr โ€“ afternoon
  • Maghrib โ€“ just after sunset
  • Isha โ€“ night

These prayers help Muslims stay connected with Allah throughout the day and maintain discipline in their daily lives.

Reference

The obligation of five daily prayers was established during the event of Isra and Mi'raj, where the Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ was commanded by Allah to observe Salah.

The Prophet ๏ทบ said:

โ€œIslam is built on five pillarsโ€ฆโ€ (Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)
