Is Fictional Magic in Video Games Haram in Islam?

Question

Is fictional magic in games haram?

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

If the magic in a game is purely fictional, no real belief is attached to it, and it does not involve disbelief (kufr), polytheism (shirk), or the teaching or promotion of real-world magic, then the mere presence of such fictional magic does not make the game inherently haram. However, as a general rule, it is better to avoid such games, as they often lead to wasting time, neglecting religious obligations, and other impermissible matters.
