Where Do Children Go After Death in Islam? (Complete Islamic Answer)

Question

My childs passed away in puberty in islam where are they now

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

In Islam, children who pass away before reaching puberty are considered innocent and will enter Jannah (Paradise). They are not held accountable for sins. If a child dies at or after puberty, they are treated like adults, and their outcome depends on their faith and deeds, with hope in Allah’s mercy.

In Islam, the ruling regarding children after death depends on whether they had reached puberty (baligh) or not.

1. Children Who Die Before Puberty

Children who pass away before puberty are:

  • Free from sin
  • Not accountable
  • Guaranteed Jannah (Paradise)

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“The pen is lifted from three: from the child until he reaches puberty…”
(Abu Dawood, Tirmidhi)

This means children are not responsible for their actions, and therefore, they enter Paradise.

2. Children and Their Parents in Jannah

Allah says in the Qur’an:

“And those who believe and whose children follow them in faith – We will join their children with them…”
(Surah At-Tur 52:21)

This shows that believing families will be reunited in Jannah.

3. Children as a Means of Reward for Parents

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“When the child of a believer dies… Allah says: Build for My servant a house in Paradise…”
(Tirmidhi, Ahmad)

Also:

“Whoever loses two children, they will be a shield for him from the Fire.”
(Bukhari, Muslim)

This highlights the immense reward and mercy for parents.

4. If a Child Dies at or After Puberty

If death occurs:

  • At puberty or after, the child is treated as an adult
  • Their outcome depends on faith (iman) and deeds
  • We hope in Allah’s mercy for them

Conclusion

In Islam, children who die before puberty are innocent and will enter Jannah, while those who die after reaching puberty are accountable, and their outcome depends on their faith and deeds, with hope in Allah’s mercy.
