Accountability for bad thoughts (Waswasah)

Question

Salam aleykum! I was doing something on my phone and happened to get angry for a moment. I did not do anything but inside my mind i said something bad and used a bad word as a sign of frustration (only in my mind not outloud). While this was happening ,inside my mind came a thought as if though i had meant these bad words towards Allah. This was not my intention and the thought just kind of popped inside my head instantly. Am i held accountable for this?? What to do?

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

Walekumussalam,

No, you will not be held accountable for this. It was only a passing intrusive thought (waswasah); you had no intention, and you did not say anything out loud, so there is no sin.

Recite “ أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم” (I seek refuge in Allah from Satan), ignore the thought immediately, and ask Allah for forgiveness.
