Choosing the name murannim

Question

Assalamualaikum is the name murannim a good name and has an islamic touch please guide me iwant to name my daughter 'murannim' as I like it and is kind of melodious

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

Walekumussalam,

"Murannim" (مُرَنِّم) is intended as the Arabic word مُرَنِّم, it is derived from tarannum (ترنُّم), which refers to melodious recitation or chanting. The name therefore carries the meaning of “one who recites or sings in a melodious voice.”

There is nothing inherently objectionable in this meaning from an Islamic perspective, so it is permissible to name a child Murannim.

However, the Prophet ﷺ encouraged Muslims to give their children the names of the Prophets, the Companions, the Mothers of the Believers, and other righteous men and women. Such names not only have good meanings but also carry the blessing of being associated with pious individuals. Therefore, names such as Maryam, Fatimah, Khadijah, Aishah, Asiyah, and Zaynab are generally more virtuous and preferable.
