The name Allah before the quran

Question

Was the name Allah came with prophet Muhammad peace be upon him with the writing of the coran, or did the people already called god Allah prior the writing of the coran ?

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

The name "Allah" was not introduced for the first time with the Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ. Even before his prophethood, the Arabs referred to the Creator of the heavens and the earth as "Allah", although they associated idols and other beings with Him in worship. The Qur'an clearly confirms this reality.

Evidence from the Qur'an

1. Allah Most High says:

โ€œIf you ask them, 'Who created the heavens and the earth?' they will surely say, 'Allah.'โ€

(Surah Luqman 31:25)

2. In another place, Allah says:

โ€œIf you ask them who created them, they will surely say, 'Allah.'โ€

(Surah Az-Zukhruf 43:87)

3. He also says:

โ€œSay, 'Who provides for you from the heaven and the earth?' ... They will surely say, 'Allah.'โ€

(Surah Yunus 10:31)

These verses make it clear that the pagan Arabs of Makkah acknowledged Allah as the Creator, Sustainer, and Provider. However, they committed shirk by worshipping idols and other beings alongside Him.

Evidence from the Hadith

The Prophet ๏ทบ said:

โ€œWhoever dies without associating anything with Allah will enter Paradise.โ€

Sahih al-Bukhari (1237); Sahih Muslim (94)

This shows that Islam did not come to introduce a new God. Rather, it called people to worship Allah alone and to abandon associating partners with Him.
