Meaning and importance of qiyam

Question

What is QYIAM? Why is it important

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

Qiyam means standing. In Islamic terminology, Qiyam refers to standing during prayer while worshipping Allah Almighty, especially while reciting the Holy Qurโ€™an.

A special form of Qiyam is Qiyam al-Layl, which means performing voluntary prayers (such as Tahajjud) at night.

Importance:

Qiyam is a fundamental part of prayer, and without it the obligatory prayer is not complete (for those who are able to stand).

Similarly, Qiyam al-Layl is one of the best ways to gain closeness to Allah, forgiveness of sins, and inner spiritual peace.
