Praying together as a family

Question

Being a family can we all pray together in the same room adult couple and children ?

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

If the congregational prayer in the mosque has already finished, then performing the prayer in congregation at home is better than praying individually. In such a case, the proper arrangement is that the husband stands in front, the children stand in the first row behind him, and the wife stands in a row behind the children.

However, it is not appropriate to make a habit of leaving the mosque congregation and regularly holding a congregation at home instead.

When conducting a congregational prayer at home, giving the Adhan and Iqamah is not obligatory, as the Adhan of the local mosque is sufficient. Nevertheless, the preferred practice is to give both the Adhan and Iqamah at home as well, or at least the Iqamah before beginning the prayer.

The husband should lead the prayer (Imam) and should also give the Iqamah. If the Adhan is to be called, it should preferably be given by the husband or by a sensible and mature child.
