Question
Married, can I pray aside of my husband ?
Islamic Ruling & Answer
VerifiedIt should be noted that if a husband and wife stand side by side and each performs their own prayer separately, the prayer is not invalidated; however, praying in this manner is considered makruh (disliked). If the husband stands in front and the wife stands behind him, then both may perform their individual prayers in the same room without any dislike. If there is not enough space for one to stand behind the other, then having a barrier between them (such as a partition), or maintaining a distance equal to at least the space occupied by one standing person, will also make the prayer valid without dislike.
Furthermore, if they wish to perform congregational prayer (jamaโah) together, it is religiously necessary for the wife to stand behind her husband.
