Is It Permissible to Use an AI Voice for YouTube Videos in Islam?
Question
Is it permissible to use an AI generated voice over for a youtube video or not? I asked a question previously but the answer was not clear for this specific area.
Islamic Ruling & Answer
VerifiedThe ruling on using an AI-generated voiceover depends on the nature of the voice and the purpose for which it is used.
If the voice is artificially generated by AI and is not an imitation of any real person, and it does not involve falsehood, deception, or any unlawful content, then its use is generally permissible.
However, if AI is used to imitate the voice of a specific individual such as a scholar, reciter, speaker, or any other person in a way that may lead listeners to believe that the actual person is speaking, then this would involve deception and a violation of rights, and would therefore not be permissible.
Likewise, if the AI voiceover is used for an unlawful or sinful purpose, its use would also be impermissible.
Therefore, using a general AI-generated voiceover in a YouTube video is permissible, provided that it does not involve impersonation, deception, or any unlawful purpose. However, imitating the voice of a specific person or misleading people into believing that the voice belongs to that person should be avoided.
