Salary Earned Through False Attendance: Is It Halal?

Question

Assalamu Alaikum. One of my friend was mentally exhausted during medicine internship rotation..she signed her attentendence without being present at work..she studies far away from home.wanted to go back to home as early as possible..the salary she took..is it permissible for her?she has few money and the portion she recieved without working is about 10k..is it permissible for her to keep the money?if she repents sincerely?

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

Walekumussalam,

The money taken without doing the duty (about 10,000) is not permissible. Just repenting is not enough because this involves the right of people (the employer).

She must return the money. If she cannot return it directly, she should try to send it through some means. If that is completely not possible, then she should give it in charity on behalf of the institution.

May Allah accept her sincere repentance.
