Can a Person Clear Their Throat During Salah Due to Excess Mucus?

Question

If a person suffers from having mucus in throat and while praying if the swallows too much saliva or mucus , he/she sometimes feels that the throat is blocked . So the person started clearing his/her throat , but his parents felt wierd so the person stopped , what should the person do , like do it secretly even if after a while , the state is the same . Thank you .

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

It is permissible to gently clear mucus or saliva to make prayer easier. If parents notice and object, it is better to clear it quietly, without making noise, with a light movement. There is no need to cough or clear the throat forcefullyโ€”just enough to remove the blockage in the throat.

Both ease in prayer and health are important; do not harm your health out of fear of your parentsโ€™ displeasure.
