Uncovered Ankle During Salah: Are Past Prayers Valid?
Question
Assalamu alaikum..my sister wears a prayer khimar while praying..it seems fine from above..but one day she noticed that while standing her ankle and small portion of leg is uncovered..she didnt notice it before and prayed with this khimar for 3 to 4 yrs..are all her prayers invalid till now?
Islamic Ruling & Answer
VerifiedWalekumussalam,
If her ankle or a small part of her leg was uncovered during prayer, then normally this area is part of the โawrah (body that must be covered), and covering it is a condition for the prayer to be valid.
However, since she did not know about it and this happened unintentionally, there is no sin on her, in sha Allah. Many scholars say that when something was done out of ignorance and not on purpose, it is not necessary to repeat all the past prayers.
From now on, she should make sure that her whole โawrah' is properly covered. As a precaution, she may repeat some prayers if she wants, but it is not required to repeat all 3-4 years of prayers.
May Allah accept all her acts of worship.
