Is Zakat Calculated Before or After Taxes?

Question

Is zakat calculated prior country taxes or after ?

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

Zakat and taxes are two separate matters. Paying taxes does not fulfill one's obligation to pay Zakat. Therefore, if Zakat is due, it must be paid separately. Money paid to the government as taxes cannot be counted as Zakat.
