Performing umrah after passing the meeqat without ihram

Question

Assalam Alaikum, I cam from Yanbu city to Jeddah for my work, but I already decided and intended to perform Umrah after finishing my work. Now I have done my work and I want to perform Umrah. From where should I wear Ihraam? I am already tires due to my work and I can't travel back to meeqat. Because after performing Umrah I have to travel back to yanbu around 5 hours travelling. JazakAllah

Islamic Ruling & Answer

Verified

Walekumussalam,

If you came from Yanbu to Jeddah solely for work, and when you passed the meeqat you had no intention of entering Makkah or the Haram, then it was not obligatory for you to enter ihram at the meeqat. Now that your work is complete and you wish to perform Umrah, you may enter ihram from Jeddah and perform your Umrah, and no compensatory sacrifice (dam) will be required in this case.

However, if you had already intended to perform Umrah when passing the meeqat, then entering ihram at the meeqat was obligatory. In that case, if you enter Makkah without ihram, a compensatory sacrifice (dam) will be required. However, if you return to the meeqat and enter ihram from there, the dam will no longer be required.
