Question
Aside from a tattoo being haram is there any hadith that says that you canโt pray if you have a tattoo and is there anything else that happens if you have one
Islamic Ruling & Answer
VerifiedHaving a tattoo does not invalidate prayer, and there is no authentic hadith stating that a person with a tattoo cannot pray or that their prayer is not accepted simply because of the tattoo.
However, getting a tattoo and tattooing others are prohibited in Islam. The Prophet ๏ทบ cursed both the one who performs tattooing and the one who gets tattooed. (Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)
Therefore, if someone got a tattoo in the past, they should sincerely repent to Allah. Their wudu and prayer remain valid because a tattoo is beneath the skin and does not prevent water from reaching it. If the tattoo can be removed without significant harm or severe difficulty, it is better to remove it; otherwise, sincere repentance is sufficient.
